The 1975's songs are less "songs" than waves in a huge blurry ocean -- which can be exciting, particularly after the salty crash of the first third of their debut album dies down into some comfortable tunes. The best one, "Sex," gleefully steals LCD Soundsystem's "This is how it starts" opening line and twists the knife into a chorus familiar to all of us: "She's got a boyfriend anyway." The 1975 seizes upon the territory of The Airborne Toxic Event and Glasvegas without diluting it. If anything, they're more eager to please.
