Rise Up (Explicit)
Cypress Hill

Released:

Priority Records
Cypress Hill spends much of their first album in six years dismissing "the haters." But it's clear B-Real, Sen Dog and Muggs have grown out of the rhyme-spitting vatos of the group's 1991 self-titled classic. On Rise Up, the trio unveils the boulevard-cruising anthem "Armada Latina"; rap-rock tracks like "Shut 'Em Down" with guitarist Tom Morello; and sticky green odes like "Pass the Dutch." It soars when it embraces a multitude of musical styles, and falters when it tries to prove its rap bona fides. So if you're looking for straight-up hip-hop, well ... there's the door.
