Dave Brubeck Octet

Dave Brubeck

image
Released: Jul 1950
Label: Concord Records
Never widely heard, most of these octet recording from 1946 to 1950 actually pre-date the surprisingly similar Miles Davis Birth of the Cool sessions (small "big band"/floating charts/swing-be-bop and the avant-garde coming together). This is pretty much the birth of West Coast jazz and future DB associates Paul Desmond, Cal Tjader and Bill Smith are all present.
