Biography

Dave Hollister began as a session vocalist, laying hooks on rap songs like 2Pac's "Brenda's Got a Baby" and "Keep Ya Head Up." His break arrived when super-producer Teddy Riley recruited him to join BLACKstreet as lead singer. Released in 1994, the group's self-titled debut yielded one huge hit, the smooth ballad "Before I Let You Go," which relied heavily on Hollister's gospel-influenced vocals. He immediately split for a solo career, but it took him five years to complete Ghetto Hymns. Released in 1999, the gold disc featured "My Favorite Girl" and the fan favorite "Baby Mama Drama." The next year, he followed with another gold-certified album, Chicago '85 … The Movie and "One Woman Man."
