Quiet Nights

Diana Krall

image
Released: Mar 2009
Label: Verve
After an extended maternity break, Diana Krall cut this bossa nova and ballads set with the legendary Claus Ogerman, who worked with Antonio Carlos Jobim and Frank Sinatra. Highlights include a languorous take on "You're My Thrill" (which recalls the sensual style of jazz minimalists like Julie London, Chet Baker and Shirley Horn) and a slinky reading of Joao Gilberto's "Este Seu Olhar." Krall even breathes new life into lounge perennial "So Nice," which showcases her stripped-down Jobim-style piano playing. Also included is a lovely cover of the Bee Gees' "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart."
