Diana Krall

image
Released: Feb 2015
Label: Verve
You've heard these songs before -- many, many times before. But Diana Krall has never concerned herself with surprising listeners, and the treat comes in hearing her dusky alto applied to the '70s rock nuggets she and much of her audience grew up idolizing, which means Elton John and Gilbert O'Sullivan and The Carpenters, with a few curveballs thrown in to keep things interesting (like the title cut, a lesser-known Bob Dylan waltz). Tasteful string arrangements keep things mellow, and Krall tosses out a few piano solos when the spirit moves her. But you're here for the songs.
