10 Summers (Explicit)
Mustard

Released:
Aug 2014
Label:
DJ Mustard/Roc Nation
The DJ Mustard sound dominates 2014 -- whether through his beats for YG and Ty Dolla $ign or through rip-offs of his aesthetic (like Iggy Azalea's "Fancy"). In spite of contributions from Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz and Jeezy, 10 Summers finds Mustard in a rut, with "Face Down," "Can't Tell Me" and "Throw Your Hood Up" being only mildly amusing. A skit, "Tinashe Checks In," finds a radio listener complaining about Mustard's ubiquity, just before the L.A. producer drops an interlude of sun-dappled R&B. It's a too-brief moment in which he shows a range beyond Too $hort homages and turf raps.
