Ice On The Dune

Empire of the Sun

image
Released: Jun 2013
Label: EMI Recorded Music Australia Pty Ltd
People looking for another electronic opus from Daft Punk (instead of Random Access Memories' organic disco) are advised to proceed directly to Empire of the Sun's second album, where "Celebrate" and "Awakening" are unquestionable Discovery homages. The sucked-straw synth filters and steely 4/4 thump are all here on Ice on the Dune, from the clubby "DNA" to the martial shuffle of "Surround Sound," which manipulates pitch-dipped vocal samples in bouquet-like fashion. Luke Steele is better than your average indie-dance phenom in subsuming his music in crashing waves of synthetic bliss.
