Flip Your Wig

Hüsker Dü

image
Released: Jan 1985
Label: Sst Records
The Minnesota trio's fourth album and last before taking the major-label leap, Flip Your Wig balances the lo-fi rawness of punk with catchy, melodic pop. Bob Mould's guitar assaults bring out the manic best in drummer Grant Hart and bassist Greg Norton; they go pop on single "Makes No Sense at All," get weird on "The Baby Song," soften up on "Green Eyes" and work out their psychedelic tendencies on the two blistering closing tracks. And if you've ever wondered who invented the Internet, just listen to "Divide and Conquer": "We'll invent some new computers/ Link up the global village."
