Biography

A fiery Chicago ensemble who fall somewhere between the early-1970s Fusion of Miles Davis and modern Post-Rock experiments. With members from Tortoise adding their distinct touches, Isotope 217 can take you into a blissful haze with gentle guitar drones and silky vintage synthesizers, or slap together a solid groove founded by their extremely tight rhythm section. The sound pushes boundaries, taking a solid Funk backbeat and sometimes adding Dub-like effects, jazzy, enticingly dissonant guitar solos and a horn section that can float, solo or supplement the rhythmic base as the situation calls for. They're obviously unconcerned with any sort of conformity or musical boundaries, working with producers like Commander Mindf*ck and Designer to further broaden their sound.
