VEGA INTL. Night School

Neon Indian

Released: Oct 2015
Label: Mom+Pop
Like the equally nostalgic, but better-funded collagists Daft Punk, Neon Indian blend loving recreations of time-locked sounds – day-glo blares of synth, supple bass, big-bottomed beats – into a roiling stew. Dense tracks like "Street Level" and "Smut!" submerge Alan Palomo's vocals in a chaotic wash of sound. A throbbing disco beat brings "The Glitzy Hive" into focus and "C'est La Vie" augments Palermo's falsetto with a jaunty synth riff and a floor-filling outro. Neon Indian don't actually try to reconstruct vintage synth pop or Top 40 disco. Wisely, they just strip them for parts.
