In interviews leading up to the release of The Rockville LP (named after the group's hometown in Maryland), O.A.R. described the music as a return to their roots. This is both true and false. While a handful of cuts (including "Two Hands Up" and "Favorite Song") echo the jam-pop/reggae vibe of their early years, numerous other songs find O.A.R. experimenting with the sing-along, dance-folk sound pioneered by the likes of Imagine Dragons in recent years. Examples of the latter include "The Element" and "We'll Pick up Where We Left Off," both of which fit snugly into the album's overall flow.
