That High Lonesome Sound

Old & In The Way

Released: Feb 1996
Label: Acoustic Disc
Have you ever wondered why hippies dig bluegrass? Well, Old and In the Way are your answer. Featuring hippie icon Jerry Garcia along with two former members of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys, the group didn't last beyond 1973, yet it helped point the way for rootless longhairs looking for stability in rural American music. But this music reached far beyond the country-rock fusion popular in 1970s California. As That High Lonesome Sound demonstrates, Old and In the Way were a real bluegrass group.
