It's been years since we've heard original material from Pat Green, who recently admitted he was "burnt out." The subject weaves its way throughout the album, most notably in "While I Was Away," which laments missing cherished family moments and in the title track: "I was blind to the game, sang the wrong songs, disappeared for way too long, but I finally found my way home." And home to Green sounds just like Texas. "Girls from Texas," a duet with fellow Lone Star State native Lyle Lovett, is a twanging take on the Beach Boys' classic "California Girls," complete with accordion and fiddle. Welcome home, indeed.
