Critics will play up all the references to mortality and death. After all, "When my songs turn to ashes on my tongue / When I look at the mirror and see I'm no longer young," are the first words Seeger sings. Just beyond that, however, is the folk icon's core philosophy: "We got to LIVE, LIVE, LIVE 'til another day comes around." That, "brothers and sisters of every skin," is what At 89 is all about. It doesn't matter how old you are or how hard up the world seems; love and hope can't be abandoned.
