In the three years since he released Glowing in the Darkest Night, Pretty Lights has been touring pretty much nonstop, rocking stages from Coachella to Ultra to his native Colorado's Red Rocks amphitheater with his singular fusion of hip-hop breaks, soul samples and glitchy EDM. A Color Map of the Sun scales up in both sound and ambition: Instead of sampling old records, Derek Vincent Smith recorded with studio musicians and reworked the raw material into his trademark cut-up funk. Call it jam band 2.0.
