Purity Ring

Released:
Jul 2012
Label:
4ad
It's been fascinating to watch 4AD evolve in the 21st century, as the iconic U.K. goth label has evolved into a global indie powerhouse with room for both Atlas Sound and Zomby. Canada's Purity Ring prove the exemplary 4AD band, then: Their debut is thick with the compressed synths and prickly hi-hats of contemporary hip-hop and dubstep, as well as irresistible electro-pop songcraft. Members Corin Roddick and Megan James are clearly goths at heart, couching their love songs in the language of bodily mutilation -- albeit in a chipper, processed style that suggests The Knife on helium.
