The Fool
Ryn Weaver

Marimba-aided "OctaHate" was a killer single, and Ryn Weaver's debut delivers similar shades of melancholy: heightened emotions, complex/busy song structures, and not a single smile cracked. Weaver's fluttering voice suits these fractured tunes, even if an overreliance on hackneyed verse strains more than a few lines ("Midas touch," OK, but "Father Time"?). Still, if you've ever felt lost in love's chains or dreamed of dancing in the desert under the pouring rain (direct quotes, those), descend into Ms. Weaver's specialized and atmospheric pop gloom.
