These Four Walls

Shawn Colvin

Released: Sep 2006
Label: Nonesuch
Though Shawn Colvin was 50-years-old at the release of her 10th album, her whimsical voice still sings as youthfully as it did on her 1988 debut. It may sound as if she's been drinking from the fountain of youth, but Colvin's mellowed-out reflective folk songs are mature narratives, ranging from being a single mother to putting on her best summer dress. With help from singers Patty Griffin, Marc Cohn, Teddy Thompson and pedal steel player Greg Leisz, Colvin's covers of the Bee Gees' "Words" and Paul Westerberg's "Even Here We Are" become her own.
