Released: May 1973
Label: Caroline-EMI
Just the title of this album points to Marc Bolan's truly distinctive (and always weird) viewpoint and stylistic sense. Who knows why the record is called Tanx or why it's spelled that way, but it both looks and sounds unnamably cool and probably has something to do with some moon goddess with stars in her eyes. Moving away from the shiny glam rock of their previous albums, Tanx is decidedly darker and slower, with some sax-y moments that weren't embraced when the album came out but sound prescient today. Folks missing the glam salad days are directed to "Born to Boogie."
