We Have You Surrounded

The Dirtbombs' Mick Collins comes on like Jimi Hendrix filtered through the Stooges, a stunning effect marred only by inconsistent songwriting. Some songs on We Have You Surrounded are so perfect, so dense and threatening and bizarrely soulful, that you won't be able to believe your good luck at finding them (see: the menacing psych of "It's No Fun Until They See You Cry."). Other times, the songwriting mojo seems to give out and we get half-hearted derivatives like "Fire in the Western World." Still, nobody -- and we mean nobody -- serves up a satisfying wall of sound like the D'bombs.
