Obey the Time, from 1990, begins like a Vini Reilly outing, with his trademark percussive guitar peals resonating as if from the bottom of a well. But what you find in the depths may surprise you. Reilly's most aggressive release, it's underpinned with driving post-punk basslines, dub effects and even the jittery drum-machine workouts of acid house, then in its infancy. "The Together Mix" (like "Fridays [Version 2]") is made even more poignant knowing that two of its contributors died in an accident just before the record's release.
