The Naked And Famous

Released: Sep 2013
Label: Polydor Records
This NZ outfit is by far the most tuneful of the post-MGMT bands to storm alternative radio, which fits their rich, arena-ready sophomore effort just fine. The sparse "Waltz" gives way to a sax break; "Hearts Like Ours" recalls "I Want Candy" in its call-response style verse. Their power ballads sound like Tegan and Sara at their most electro ("The Mess") and Jimmy Eat World at their slickest ("What We Want") and never skimp on rich towers of harmony. Best is closer "A Small Reunion," as bells and violins crawl to the surface for a 6-minute climax sure to rival anything by Arcade Fire.
