Released: Jun 2006
Label: Dualtone
While Americana-based music mags like Harp branch out into other-than-twang territory, alt-country bible No Depression is still partying like it's 1990. This is actually a good thing when you harvest the cream of their crop into one cornucopia of heartland hymns. These songs take more chances than the Nashville assembly line as evidenced by the subtle political bite of Jay Farrar's "Station to Station." Whiskeytown fans will delight in hearing the harmonies of Ryan Adams and Caitlin Cary in "The Battle." Drive-By-Truckers' "Outfit" is sure to appease those who think that it's still OK to don a mesh cap.
