Down To My Last Bad Habit

Vince Gill

Released: Feb 2016
Label: MCA Nashville
With a lone, steady drumbeat Vince Gill kicks off his first album in four years with an attention-commanding roots-rocker, “Reasons for the Tears I Cry.” Gill sounds timeless yet modern, and too pop or too rap, like many other current country stars. There are plenty of bluesy numbers, including the title cut and “Make You Feel Real Good,” which draws you in with a wailing harmonica and honky-tonk piano. “Take Me Down” is a gentle, pulsating country rocker that gets added oomph from the uber-luscious backing vocals of Little Big Town, while “I’ll Be Waiting for You” is a sad stunner that features Cam on backing vocals. It’s an odd twist that, while Gill is best known for his stirring ballads, it’s the rootsy, shuffling numbers that shine brightest.
