Nocturne

Wild Nothing

image
Released: Aug 2012
Label: Captured Tracks
On his sophomore album as Wild Nothing, Jack Tatum cuddles ever more tightly to the sounds of across-the-pond '80s indie. Yes, you could probably toss the title track into a John Hughes soundtrack; "Only Heather" oozes with the sweet nectar of "Just Like Honey," and "Disappear Always" jangles to the pulse of The Smiths and The Cure. Slightly crisper than debut Gemini, Nocturne's woozy synths slowly, carefully wash over slick reverbed guitar, while Tatum's lulling vocals act as just another wave in his ocean of sound; his lyrics undulate just as much, from letting love go to letting it back in.
