Live From The Kitchen

Yo Gotti

image
Released: Jan 2012
Label: RCA RECORDS LABEL
For detractors who think Yo Gotti is a poor man's Jeezy, listen to "The Letter," a six-minute stream-of-consciousness rap where he addresses loved ones in plain, but sincere, language. It's the highlight of an album that often attempts deeper resonance, from producer Shawty Redd's strange mix of trap-rap cliches and synth-pop for the "Killa" beat, to Yo Gotti's comparison of Crip and Blood colors with the Union Jack and the "Red, White and Blue." The minor urban pop hit "We Can Get It On" is a modest pleasure; and "5 Star Remix" includes entertaining guest shots from Trina and Nicki Minaj.
