Cabaret
Description
Cabaret tends towards the smoky, sultry side of music, popularized in nightclubs and cafes. From Josephine Baker to Don Ho, or Edith Piaf to Marianne Faithfull's later recordings, Cabaret music is racy, smooth, and energetic. It developed after World War I as a reaction against bland popular music, and is currently undergoing a revival of sorts as modern electronica artists like Kid Loco and Dimitri From Paris revisit the sounds and samples of Serge Gainsbourg and Jacques Brel.
