Though Verbana's angst-packed alt-rock always betrayed a love for Americana, no one could've foreseen lead singer A.A. Bondy's transformation into a folk-pop troubadour. On his second album, the dude's melancholic croon possesses more than a passing resemblance to that of Vetiver's Andy Cabic. At the same time, the Alabama-born Bondy is more in tune with his southern roots than Cabic (who is Virginian by birth). Ultimately, though, Bondy is no copy cat, and When the Devil's Loose is a darn good listen.
