Delphic

Released: Jun 2010
Label: Dangerbird Records
England's Delphic may not be oracles, but they do speak in tongues on their debut album, channeling both the electronic pop of the '80s and its successors. It's terse and lush all at once, with snapping rhythms cushioned by layers of keyboards and effects. You couldn't throw a guitar pick without hitting an influence or a peer, from New Order to Interpol to Bloc Party, but even if the songwriting occasionally lacks oomph, producer Ewan Pearson's finesse on the boards smooths it all into something blissful and occasionally even urgent.
