Featuring songs from their split releases and alternate versions of some choice album cuts, Turbulent Times is not so much a summation of the prescient band's career as a welcome addition to their legendary, hard-to-find output. Not as overtly addicted to drugs as their sludge-metal brethren Eyehategod, but equally depressed, Grief make up for their lack of Southern swing with an unmatched brutality, which is saying something where sludge/doom metal is concerned. That said, "Earthworm" could have easily been on EHG's Dopesick.
