Best known for his 1974 hit "Spiders and Snakes," Jim Stafford made a brief career out of writing novelty songs. His self-titled debut album showcases smartly written songs -- some with heavy-handed humor and others that show more of a sly wink. It's no wonder Stafford went on to write for the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour Revival Show. Although Stafford's popularity waned by the mid-'70s, as did the whole novelty song craze, he left songs such as "I Ain't Sharin' Sharon," "Wildwood Weed" and "Swamp Witch" as part of his comedic legacy.
