Growers Of Mushroom (Bonus Tracks)

Leaf Hound

Released: May 1971
Label: Repertoire Records
Best druggie band name/album title tandem ever? This overlooked nugget of '70s British hard rock will come as a pleasant surprise to anyone interested in the blues-heavy moves and neck-bearded vocals of stoner rock. It features Paul Kossoff and Simon Kirke before they formed Free, and, like good Zeppelin, even the slow numbers on Growers of Mushroom have at least one air-guitar-worthy part. Then there are "Stray," "Drowned My Life in Fear" and opener "Freelance Fiend," all of which are marked by fully saturated guitars and the barest touches of psychedelia.
