East of Eager

Moviola

image
Released: May 2004
Label: No Heroics
It took Moviola three years to produce the follow-up to the excellent Rumors of the Faithful. That's because boys turn into men and men start families and families take up time. As a result, East of Eager sounds more like a collection of sketches than fully fleshed-out tunes. It's a bunch of old pals getting together and making a little country-pop before the babies start crying again. Still, Moviola cough up some gems, namely the nostalgic travelogue "Kew Garden Hills" and the folksy ballad "Halflife," wherein a cryptic introspection somehow speaks of life with perfect clarity.
